I can tap on its touch screen and tell it to remember a location, and later ask it to guide me back. I can create a route beforehand, ride along it, detour as I please, and get back on the route stress-free.</p><p>Edge Explore 2 shows the turns well in advance and is easy to read. Not so much with my old Edge 520 that I preferred not to use for navigation or routes.</p><p>Pairing Edge Eplore 2 with my iPhone was as smooth as can be. Sadly, syncing between the devices fails or takes ages quite often, and I haven't been able to get my rides to Strava, even though I find them on Garmin Connect. Even when I've test-ridden with both Explore 2 and 520, the data of the latter goes nice all the way, but the data of the former doesn't. *)</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4dy8AHQT8GfIn9KbwSVYAzr8rW7snGib93-dove9iJfT9CCEgokVmmPOox_gCGLQMdhqxTiPmYHJGBhtgdocZ31D8JL9u_2CFT8WwhQqK1cBQFioTYMIsCBWBEHJddoqJQAPrr_rXlBtk5aUrVylFfhugQR8xbk2AiNv70OzQGEO5n-nbbLTlxVfP/s2990/garmin-doubledata_4868.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2990" data-original-width="2242" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4dy8AHQT8GfIn9KbwSVYAzr8rW7snGib93-dove9iJfT9CCEgokVmmPOox_gCGLQMdhqxTiPmYHJGBhtgdocZ31D8JL9u_2CFT8WwhQqK1cBQFioTYMIsCBWBEHJddoqJQAPrr_rXlBtk5aUrVylFfhugQR8xbk2AiNv70OzQGEO5n-nbbLTlxVfP/s320/garmin-doubledata_4868.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>A battery for 24 hour navigation (34 hrs w/o nav) and a bigger screen make the device bulky. I knew it, I knew it before buying, but still... it doesn't fit to my K-Edge Garmin/GoPro combo mount. Nevertheless, it sits nicely on a 120 mm stem.<p></p><p>There is one arbitrary restriction that keeps me thinking about returning my Edge Explore 2. It doesn't have an option to show 30s power. It's either 3s power or average for the whole ride, but nothing in between. So, no data for intervals or race sprints.</p><p>Maybe Garmin's marketing department has thought that crippling this product pushes cyclists who race to buy a higher end device, eg. Edge 1040.</p><p>Please Garmin, fix this with a firmware update.</p><p><i>*) The new firmware version helps. While still sluggish, at least now the data moves to the phone when Connect app is active in the foreground.</i></p>Esko Liushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11405621780442485136noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233013243345308266.post-43948742662988783482022-09-04T12:52:00.001+03:002022-09-04T12:53:07.269+03:00Garmin Edge Explore 2, expectations<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH7MfqmJHPWSSji_bfe_vCtHuhxll5QhtyKrpJy8jiIhzoevU8bLOhHP43t8iD1cFZ7FKK35MqFhvX56e8nL06VDvmkX6zyYsMRu09nLy5JO752eQg6mjnh2I4Pm1agWPy9oBTNkYuk_8Z4VyTHe01p_ThKRcUXc2I7WPIP1JfLCsxcWtc4DiTxcg5/s1532/garmin-charging_4801.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1532" data-original-width="1183" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH7MfqmJHPWSSji_bfe_vCtHuhxll5QhtyKrpJy8jiIhzoevU8bLOhHP43t8iD1cFZ7FKK35MqFhvX56e8nL06VDvmkX6zyYsMRu09nLy5JO752eQg6mjnh2I4Pm1agWPy9oBTNkYuk_8Z4VyTHe01p_ThKRcUXc2I7WPIP1JfLCsxcWtc4DiTxcg5/w154-h200/garmin-charging_4801.jpg" width="154" /></a></div>I've been thinking about replacing my old cycling computer for some time now. <p></p>My Garmin Edge 520 has started to show its age. For others, the bike fit is an "envelope", where the limits are vague and may change over time. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm of the latter. It suffices if the rent bike size is thereabouts. But it doesn't mean that all the corners of the envelope would be optimal for my riding - I just happen to be happy with what I got.</div><div><br /><span style="text-align: left;">My riding and racing style have found their seasoned path some years ago. I've gone with the same settings season in, season out. </span></div><p>Except that I have not. This summer I've caught myself thinking that mayhaps my position is too long – too much distance between the saddle and the handlebar. Some neck pain and some wobbling / difficulties in handling at 70+ km/h speeds have indicated that maybe everything is not correct.</p><p>On Cannondale CaadX, my position is noticeably different to the one on my road bikes. How can it be so, as I've set them all to be same... I think...</p><p>Who knows when, why, and how it has happened, but on my Bianchi Oltre XR4, the distance between the saddle and the handlebar is almost two centimeters longer than on the CX rig. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="text-align: left;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRpofQHtmNO_r7jSXzW8D6iDbYOLLcCP1iUqa0oxh8mC65VTPcXTDQDnbXjKpefURAgsut9FXGyMMKvqOcqv-lqfAxbd6TIRBx3gvsLNOUIYZQQcFIha0Kdqj4hyAFpvST9cJfs_aC61RTFIiwHbun3cr9CzDd3_Ijm8whv5-HzKvb2ZmxAgpmtdht/s3587/saddle_4557.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3587" data-original-width="2920" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRpofQHtmNO_r7jSXzW8D6iDbYOLLcCP1iUqa0oxh8mC65VTPcXTDQDnbXjKpefURAgsut9FXGyMMKvqOcqv-lqfAxbd6TIRBx3gvsLNOUIYZQQcFIha0Kdqj4hyAFpvST9cJfs_aC61RTFIiwHbun3cr9CzDd3_Ijm8whv5-HzKvb2ZmxAgpmtdht/w163-h200/saddle_4557.jpg" width="163" /></a></span></div><p>A too long position hampers your bike handling and causes back aching and possibly also numb feet issues. Oh yes, maybe the excessive pressure on the ball of my foot stems from this!</p><p>My first thought was to get a shorter stem. Then again, why not to test how it would fare to have the whole package further frontward.</p><p>So, I turned my seatpost head 180° to the "short" position and moved Selle Italia SLR a whopping 17 mm forward.</p><p>I rode the maiden voyage (commuted to work and back) of the new setup yesterday. It felt better for riding fast and for sprinting out of the saddle than my previous setup. Naturally, after a mere 20 + 35 km (with a backpack) it's way too early to announce the verdict. </p><p>Furthermore, how do I know if the change is an improvement or not? Perhaps I just get used to this slightly different position. Perhaps it's just "same but different" and has no significant effect.</p><p>On a side note, one's posture can be way off even if the bike fit is fine. For example, one's pelvis may be collapsed, or tilted upwards, and that causes problems. <a href="https://youtu.be/LhXEI4mOwfk" target="_blank">Watch this video</a> from Kinetic Cycle Coaching for more.</p><p>And finally, yes, just as you were thinking already... the fore/aft position of the saddle is just one piece of the puzzle. Whenever you experiment with your fit, make only one change at a time, and ride quite a bit before making the next adjustment.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWaGLh55oNCaCnjuZJI-tMDzcLZJBF0_3fjyt_k3pL_SHQSeVkc6GOvXPOQGbdsQwND6TACWcqCwnXntpMtYb_BeHQOh0yZx3Qe2h3omZU7Lk7XBTvlpahfcM12WSjp5X2KW1-ztihJ77hJE2Y-1rXYuWECr9C1hIj8dkn8SRp8IgKOUISf7icC8At/w640-h368/Saddlebalance_4561-2048px.jpg" /></p>Esko Liushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11405621780442485136noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233013243345308266.post-82729159574472530482022-08-10T14:05:00.001+03:002022-08-10T14:05:22.363+03:00Kolmen kisan kesäloma<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iuCd33QITJ2Dk-pMHDNbg-omSVpu75FY6pUU00JfCDKwyJQTXOvz2Zf_lJFh3eIvcwifBm6DHs5oKTWQBP9M2EszbbYl5NyC1DvH9hJ9QhvXug0xruXdEU6SN9CIQznMB06K1dreYVz-vZaNQtrrFgpgKbtnHxVTQgWDsRwR15CLWV4sOMvYi78z/s2048/Esko%20TLL22%2020220723-IMG_0648%20Janne%20Kousa%20copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1121" data-original-width="2048" height="219" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0iuCd33QITJ2Dk-pMHDNbg-omSVpu75FY6pUU00JfCDKwyJQTXOvz2Zf_lJFh3eIvcwifBm6DHs5oKTWQBP9M2EszbbYl5NyC1DvH9hJ9QhvXug0xruXdEU6SN9CIQznMB06K1dreYVz-vZaNQtrrFgpgKbtnHxVTQgWDsRwR15CLWV4sOMvYi78z/w400-h219/Esko%20TLL22%2020220723-IMG_0648%20Janne%20Kousa%20copy.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Kesä on tarjonnut oivalliset kelit pyöräilyyn... ja pihatöihin. </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5fRCqKVjpTeP3ynBP7B1V2jVBq0l7SwWRgeI8MNWrB1bfomiMKZWHOUpk7FPYDeSl4UyYIM5zl7N_7XXNHDfvuiBxzxWzcaKt-_tmQts0lMjh4zrNwNrsRPPqLAVRGwqOEQBQS25cmkvx6seP7RSBLTtYhPEh9_dr6sM_v39u1cyMziBe5tywUMZZ/s3041/Esko_BianchiCup_TimoMetsa%CC%88la%CC%88_0008-Edit.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1994" data-original-width="3041" height="263" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5fRCqKVjpTeP3ynBP7B1V2jVBq0l7SwWRgeI8MNWrB1bfomiMKZWHOUpk7FPYDeSl4UyYIM5zl7N_7XXNHDfvuiBxzxWzcaKt-_tmQts0lMjh4zrNwNrsRPPqLAVRGwqOEQBQS25cmkvx6seP7RSBLTtYhPEh9_dr6sM_v39u1cyMziBe5tywUMZZ/w400-h263/Esko_BianchiCup_TimoMetsa%CC%88la%CC%88_0008-Edit.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Bianchi-cup Palojoki 2021. Yet, I am to shoot some during <a href="https://www.cch.fi/events/myllikan-tripla" target="_blank">a cycling event</a> there on Saturday. How to get some good ones? </p><p>Naturally, the easiest way is to nail the fierce action and capture the intensity of racing – like here, during the Bianchi Cup in Espoo.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPgJOBiM_vN40QbsjZo2ieizuvan_NKXvPbXRVfJlYqlKNlWFjm0sIt6tNUz_EjwOOP5WjFPiM4aO8HYAvclYSFdrtEZeTnMeGdKrXgYanGRIkVwsKkUb28q1O0huds3PSZqkTApk8kCaYZDJ_dc5eNpG9P41xt6YV-ZalP9z8CG-CFP7MkPCudr8F/s2048/Bianchicup-intense_0583.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1597" data-original-width="2048" height="313" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPgJOBiM_vN40QbsjZo2ieizuvan_NKXvPbXRVfJlYqlKNlWFjm0sIt6tNUz_EjwOOP5WjFPiM4aO8HYAvclYSFdrtEZeTnMeGdKrXgYanGRIkVwsKkUb28q1O0huds3PSZqkTApk8kCaYZDJ_dc5eNpG9P41xt6YV-ZalP9z8CG-CFP7MkPCudr8F/w400-h313/Bianchicup-intense_0583.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>At this upcoming gig, most likely the cyclists won't be posing with such expressive faces. Nor will we have such an interesting winding road or that shadowy light.</p><p>From the technical point of view, one major problem is keeping the subject sharply focused. If my #1 camera Nikon D750 wasn't being serviced right now, it would tackle the job nice. However, I have to rely on my entry level Nikon D5500. It focuses slow, especially indoors.</p><p>Usually with good equipment it's more about finding the interesting compositions: taking shots from ground level or well above, zooming in to freeze the moment, or panning with the camera using slow shutter speed to create the feeling of fast motion and to blur the restless background. </p><p>Here you have an over-the-top example of all that, taken some years ago at Tour de Helsinki.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqQFora-XzZYIe5HI4Er-5VoqIel5wrcOvKRn4EIsIjsOy2sLX98ddM_o4vqvLWeDtgjKRdls4dgfz_oeYSolyAH8kxEHfH_jgzK_sAWCAASg6DGoM7fZ0gC4sHKHkChq33CctN1NLPlAawCuVPxYWX-8ei2aPAxHrENJpazVpmWQOKBgi_N_jkJi4/s1868/TdH-panned_2848.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1229" data-original-width="1868" height="264" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqQFora-XzZYIe5HI4Er-5VoqIel5wrcOvKRn4EIsIjsOy2sLX98ddM_o4vqvLWeDtgjKRdls4dgfz_oeYSolyAH8kxEHfH_jgzK_sAWCAASg6DGoM7fZ0gC4sHKHkChq33CctN1NLPlAawCuVPxYWX-8ei2aPAxHrENJpazVpmWQOKBgi_N_jkJi4/w400-h264/TdH-panned_2848.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Another major issue indoors is the amount and the quality of light. Even if I locked the focus on certain distance and hoped to get some frames exactly when the riders are on that spot, the pale yellowy uncontrasty dull would be of no interest, no matter how sharp the protagonist's eyes (or Oakleys) appear.</p><p>In studios, they arrange an array of flashes and reflectors to make the subject look awesome.</p><p>Now, my entry-level camera doesn't have a flash commander feature, or in other words, it doesn't support off-camera slave flashes. </p><p>It has its own tiny tealight on the top of the camera. Furthermore, I can attach a separate Nikon SB-600 flashlight on the camera. However, such directional flash creates unnatural images of cyclists like rabbits caught in the headlights.</p><p>I had almost forgotten that back in the day, before getting the D750, I had bought Cactus V6 flash transceivers. So, now I'm preparing to pack to my backpack an external flash or two, and control them remotely. More light, and from a better direction. </p><p>The tripod with the flash and an umbrella can sit next to the track. On the D5500, there is one Cactus that triggers the remote flashes.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3po41ZkWsVItNfIYewEqa1y5X1thxbUaXbVK-y0pyCCf6flf84AMnAme4OcNytC_48M4QtdnKZ39LvOXkfAGrmWBf3D-rdudib9t2eCr8eQzoczeIywQI1ONQcaJkR5qN6UEt-do3-I_yMFpksg_gRjEJdfjLlhLKrltEi6rCfiGANIE2VnXtWD2m/s1991/Nikon%20D5500%20and%20Cactus%20and%20Flash_3216%20medres.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1263" data-original-width="1991" height="254" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3po41ZkWsVItNfIYewEqa1y5X1thxbUaXbVK-y0pyCCf6flf84AMnAme4OcNytC_48M4QtdnKZ39LvOXkfAGrmWBf3D-rdudib9t2eCr8eQzoczeIywQI1ONQcaJkR5qN6UEt-do3-I_yMFpksg_gRjEJdfjLlhLKrltEi6rCfiGANIE2VnXtWD2m/w400-h254/Nikon%20D5500%20and%20Cactus%20and%20Flash_3216%20medres.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p>Let's see next week if there are photos that I am not too embarrassed to share.</p>Esko Liushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11405621780442485136noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233013243345308266.post-83991029486372843282022-03-16T22:26:00.007+02:002022-03-16T22:26:52.026+02:00Is it a summer? Summer22, is here. After sweating vigorously indoors on the trainer and on the rollers for the last three months, the weather and the conditions are finally suitable for me and my bike to get out again.</p><p>No way that I'd take a road bike with road tyres there yet. Not only is there some snow and ice, but this winter the sanding has been excessive, and it will take a while before we get rid of the puncturous substance on the track.</p><p>Chapeau to those who keep on riding through the winter. In this case the shadow is casted by my Elite Direto, and the sun rays shining nice on my old Tacx rollers.<br /><br />The rollers don't have any adjustable resistance, not to speak of any interaction with the virtual world ascends and descends. In fact, the resistance of the rollers is so light that to I must up my cadence to 90 rpm on 53-11 gearing just to get out of Z1 to low Z2. <br /><br />Any power training is next to impossible. I've tried some final sprints on Zwift. Some 400 Watts is my max at 130 rpm. Currently, 150 rpm is my limit on rollers. <br /><br />So, there are some limitations but a lot of benefits, too. This fortnight on rollers has been very useful. It's hard/good for the respiratory system, and it's hard/good for improving the pedalling technique. And in general, it's good to alter one's training routine and put the body in a different kind of work. For example, my abs have found it a lot harder, as on the rollers I have to control my position like in real-life cycling.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/DhZFrgW22xc" width="320" youtube-src-id="DhZFrgW22xc"></iframe></div><br /><p>Be careful, though. Drinking from the bidon, chatting on the Companion app, or even swiping sweat from you face may destroy your balance. <br /><br />My moment of embarrasment came on the second day. When quitting the workout, I couldn't get cleats unlocked from the pedals. it turned out that I had taken shoes with SPD-SL cleats and attached them to Favero Assioma (Look) pedals.</p>Esko Liushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11405621780442485136noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233013243345308266.post-30624136610671207042022-02-28T12:44:00.001+02:002022-02-28T12:44:09.438+02:00Two thousand on a solidarity ride for Ukraine<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/e00XQRjIYtY" width="320" youtube-src-id="e00XQRjIYtY"></iframe></div><br />Halfway, we stopped for one minute to express solidarity. France yesterday. With the help of the double draft effect and big groups, it lived by its route name "<i>Route Grand Vitesse</i>" or "high speed route".</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br />I pedalled the first lap in the leading group, which took me by a surprise. Both that they didn't ride faster and that I was able to stay with them. The average speed for that lap was 50.5 km/h (31.4 mph).<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjjt5NLAmhfnOQb6cFU85OgsLiL3FiW-vWOXzH2p1t0f-QrMTj9JiYu5bfXWWh1vxOjhY0n2lZJdJAxfZ4nj6KxxtKKzNcxIR0xZhbQwY77UBA9tpZa_0BDDYQNv9-YHZBydbE58l0JNuy-fc73wUdgqwi7l-G3zGVLlVTEgoPTlGl_hR1kKnZJQ6Ha=s2048" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1090" data-original-width="2048" height="170" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjjt5NLAmhfnOQb6cFU85OgsLiL3FiW-vWOXzH2p1t0f-QrMTj9JiYu5bfXWWh1vxOjhY0n2lZJdJAxfZ4nj6KxxtKKzNcxIR0xZhbQwY77UBA9tpZa_0BDDYQNv9-YHZBydbE58l0JNuy-fc73wUdgqwi7l-G3zGVLlVTEgoPTlGl_hR1kKnZJQ6Ha=s320" width="320" /></a></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">There was some extra program during the ride. First, I almost quit by clicking on wrong places on the screen. Luckily, I found a BACK button. Check out that screenshot above. In the upper left-hand corner, there is the small orange square to escape. I wasn't aware of that and I was very close to accept my fate. But back I went, and could continue with the main blob.<br /><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg46QQXAw-Xehh8rsPUAPA8HcOLf9OeBoidc3SpMslAg5X5u1ibTZCWYKGu331d8SN1xRCepvTVVZSRh0IjX1fPzmQGHaes1S3A_oBFwUoP8UOyM_v2N_lJb0LQM4NJCMZQYLbFMqY0wQWDgO4Czx3dz6DfAVfIOW8aS9mnmh8mq-jAEdLt_eJ5WxG5=s2048" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1098" data-original-width="2048" height="172" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg46QQXAw-Xehh8rsPUAPA8HcOLf9OeBoidc3SpMslAg5X5u1ibTZCWYKGu331d8SN1xRCepvTVVZSRh0IjX1fPzmQGHaes1S3A_oBFwUoP8UOyM_v2N_lJb0LQM4NJCMZQYLbFMqY0wQWDgO4Czx3dz6DfAVfIOW8aS9mnmh8mq-jAEdLt_eJ5WxG5=s320" width="320" /></a></div></div><p></p>Having completed the first lap, I felt like on the limits. Soon after I got dropped. The screenshot above shows the moment when I realize that the four riders in front of me are leaving a gap and I should push hard to catch the main group. I didn't have what it takes. So, from there on, I rode between the first and the second group up to Pavé Sprint (reverse). Onwards from the Sprint up to the Finish, I was to enjoy the big 2nd group pace. I completed the 49 km event in 1:00:13. (<a href="https://zwiftpower.com/events.php?zid=2556548" target="_blank">Zwiftpower results</a>)<br /><br />My internet connection was lost for half a minute during the second lap. When other riders disappear, you lose the draft effect and must push quite a bit more to keep the same pace as the group does. If that ever happens to you, keep the extra effort up to the point when reconnected... of when your legs disconnect.<br /><br />This mobile 5G connection has a steady flow of 600 Mbps but it has its hiccups. Thanks for the ISP support this morning, they allowed me to change into "public IP" which should suit better for gaming. Let's see if that works.Esko Liushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11405621780442485136noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5233013243345308266.post-9537998924409274572022-01-02T18:56:00.002+02:002022-01-02T18:56:49.433+02:00Better fitness than ever on a New Year's Day<a href="https://www.blogger.com/#"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjOd5AGDgCdU7bm8MmSlnWxfbXZm-uktXhLO7vdXRaO3qdw6wKt253WSdDMWjnuhXlpFUC2OzidMVAxQRCRLrSzrjwQSsLuYbfYLk_RQBAhJRYmxDkBv8li8tadhLKhkGxhxh3HbI8bC3evR5PIany-2bEL5CDVOI9COm8cdjoUh3PW3uSWZZ1gjF2u=w400-h226" /></a><br />2022 has entered, full of promise! <br /><br />This former winter-coach-potato has turned the tables and has trained more and better than ever.<br /><br />I started to prepare for my training camp in the South two months before my flight. I wanted to make sure I can endure the planned riding and climbing in Gran Canaria at the beginning of December. <br /><br />Remember all those newbie instructions how to prepare for your "first Century"? - Increase volume week by week, keep intensity same or, if possible, increase that as well. Small increases, say 10-15% per week. <br /><br />It worked perfectly. I rode almost 800 km and 14,500 vertical meters in 36 hours in nine days. No problem. <br /><br />As expected, my fatigue increased and form deteriorated due to this heavy training load. Consequently, I have taken it a bit easier after the trip. For example, it took some three weeks to get FTP back to the level it was before the trip. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgFfrBAV6YL_IW54uqgaPEiInX_hIq2-UjrP_xtw6zVvDnkWSTQwy80R27AmTCEnLzea-rWzxV6bGL7MKNjiOWzlmxACZWuwZ41l1JR_8vUbTVd8HPFRkYof7C48A0VOpPPT_suDBpQeoX_JGzaTYKTSOyiyY_zV1SN1rAJmn-ssAsKJAPOpTTURq-D=s2416" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Fitness and form graph" border="0" data-original-height="1022" data-original-width="2416" height="169" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgFfrBAV6YL_IW54uqgaPEiInX_hIq2-UjrP_xtw6zVvDnkWSTQwy80R27AmTCEnLzea-rWzxV6bGL7MKNjiOWzlmxACZWuwZ41l1JR_8vUbTVd8HPFRkYof7C48A0VOpPPT_suDBpQeoX_JGzaTYKTSOyiyY_zV1SN1rAJmn-ssAsKJAPOpTTURq-D=w400-h169" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">This fitness/form graph by Strava shows it clearly. I've been training this autumn and winter more and harder than before. Unlike Joe Friel coaches us for the BASE period, I have ridden a bit harder. Next, it's time for a BUILD period. That means I should seek Zwift races and training that resembles racing, i.e. shorter intervals and rapid pace-changing. <div><br /></div><div>I know such do exist in Zwift too, only that I haven't done those yet.
